Utility pole installation couldn’t be easier with Secure Set

Doug Reeves
Installing utility poles can be an expensive and time-consuming job. Conventionally, utility pole installation is done with compacted backfill soil. The problem is that the soil isn’t always sufficiently compressed to create a solid foundation for the pole. GRA Services has developed an easier, more stable and more reliable way to install utility poles. Secure Set is a far more suitable alternative because it has a compression ratio that is three times greater than that of compacted soil, and it also doesn’t settle over time. As this polyurethane foam expands, it fills every void in the hole, creating the strongest bond possible and keeping your poles standing strong for longer.

The leading choice

Secure Set has become the leading choice in utility pole installation because it provides all the strength of concrete without any of the drawbacks. It is cheaper, sets quicker, and much easier to use. After its quick and easy mixing and pouring procedure, Secure Set creates a solid bond with the pole and soil, resulting in enhanced foundation strength while also protecting the pole against water, groundline rot and oxidation.

Why our pole setting choice is better than concrete

Secure Set is a far superior pole setting choice when compared with concrete. Just consider the following facts:

  • It’s easier to prepare:
You didn’t have to lift any heavy bags, there is no labor-intensive, backbreaking tamping, and you don’t need water. You simply mix the two components together and pour.
  • It’s economical: For a typical communication tower installation with a 28” by 60” hole, 2,480 pounds of concrete is needed. In contrast to a utility pole, concrete is used to set a communications tower in place. Check out our video that compares the installation of a radio tower with concrete as opposed to a secure set.
  • It saves time: Once poured, concrete needs two and a half hours to set and then a further 24 hours to cure. Secure Set is fully hardened in about an hour.
  • It offers several environmental benefits: There are no alkalines to leach into the soil, and galvanized poles are protected from alkaline induced corrosion.
  • Impervious to moisture and won’t rot.
  • Stronger than concrete and won't deteriorate - and also protects the pole against rot.
